Riding School

Lesson options for adults and children

When you begin riding with us you will need to have an initial private assessment lesson. This helps us judge your current level of riding or introduce you to riding at Burcott if you are a beginner. Then your instructor will help you decide what to do next.

What can you hope to achieve with regular instruction? This depends largely on your own ambitions. We are quite happy to teach people who want to keep their riding purely as a hobby. However if you are keen to progress to owning your own horse or have your own horse and want to improve to compete we are able to help you. Instructors who compete themselves regularly are up to date with competition requirements.

For the more ambitious…

In the summer good use can be made of our cross country schooling fences and our mini cross country field. We also have a show jumping paddock, great preparation for your season's competing!

We have recently re-started the very popular clients-only dressage competitions where you can bring your own horse with whom you have had lessons with Nikki, Janet or Caroline. Alternatively, for a small charge, you can borrow a horse or pony from the riding school. Our next competition is in September. Before that though we shall be doing some competition practice mornings or afternoons and a show jumping session for those who want to practice their course jumping. Please check out our latest news for more details.

Dressage competition…

Those of you who are keen to compete but do not have transport may be interested in the idea of entering a Dressage Anywhere test. See their website for details

http://www.dressageanywhere.com/ Nikki is going to arrange a filming day for this.

Pony mornings

This is a recent addition to our riding school but has already proved hugely popular. Children of any ability, aged 7- 12 years can join in. The morning lasts 10 - 1pm and covers stable management, tacking up, grooming & handling as well as a riding lesson. There are also certificates of achievement that the children can work towards and gain a rosette! Every Saturday morning and some weekday mornings in the school holidays.
